STV0680B Stills "Plug and Save", QuickTime Video Capture and Photoshop plug-in for MacOS. Release Version 1.5d1 7 March 2001 ======================================== This readme describes this installation executable for the STV0680B camera for MacOS. The installation allows three different ways of using the STV0680B camera on a MacOS system. 1. Plug and Save function. When the STV0680B camera is plugged into the Mac a dialog box will appear automatically to allow the user to save all the images or movies (at present it will ignore any audio clips) that are currently stored in the STV0680B camera. 2. Quicktime video driver. Once plugged into the Mac the STV0680B camera can be used as a tethered video camera. Any application that supports quicktime video capture devices will make use of the camera if it is plugged into the Mac. 3. Adobe Photoshop compatible plug-in. As an alternative to the 'Plug and Save' function the user can download images directly into an image editing and manipulation application, such as Adobe Photoshop, or PhotoDeluxe, without having to download the images separately (audio download not supported). Requirements ------------ - Mac running MacOS 8.6 or later - STV0680B-001 or STV0680B-003 Camera - Quicktime capture application (if using Quicktime capture function) - Image editing application supporting Adobe Photoshop compatible plug-ins. Installation ------------ Run the installer and this will the place the following files in the correct folders File Folder STV0680 Camera extension Mac HD/System Folder/Extensions STV0680 Camera control panel Mac HD/System Folder/Control Panels STV0680 Capture plugin see below NOTE: The driver installation will ask you where you wish to install the plug-in. It needs to be installed into the appropriate plug-ins folder for your Image editing application, e.g. for Adobe Photoshop, it is PhotoShop->Plug-Ins->Import/Export folder. Other applications will have a similar folder usually as a sub-folder of the main application folder. Instructions for Use (Plug and Save function) --------------------------------------------- When the camera is plugged in, a dialog box will appear giving the option to save the images currently in the camera to files on the Mac. The dialog box asks for the name that you want to use for the base filename (defaults to date and time). It also lets you select what folder you want to save the images into. The folder name defaults to "STV0680 Camera Snapshots" on your hard disk, but can be changed in the normal way. You can also create a new folder underneath the currently selected one, by clicking on the 'New' button. If you click 'Save' the images will be uploaded into the selected folder with filenames of basename, where n is a number from 1 up to the maximum number of images in the camera. If you click 'Cancel' the dialog will dissappear and nothing more will happen. While the images are uploading, a dialog box will appear. You can cancel the operation by clicking on the STOP button. Once the upload is complete you have the option of clearing the camera from the driver, simply press on the YES or NO button. This will close the dialog and complete the upload operation. Normal images will be in PICT format. Images captured in continuous mode will be concatenated into a QuickTime movie and compressed. Control Panel settings (Plug and Save function) ----------------------------------------------- The Plug and Save function adds a new Control Panel to the Control Panels menu to adjust the default settings of the Plug and Save function. You can access this control panel by clicking on the Apple icon, then 'control panels' then 'STV0680 Camera'. The following defaults can be changed: Video: 'Warn if camera has images' If this option is checked, the driver will warn the user that the camera still has images in it which will be lost if the camera is used as a video capture device. If this option is unchecked, no warning will be given. Download: 'Show save dialog' - If this option is checked, the driver will show the dialog that allows the user to select the filename and folder, each time the camera is plugged in. If this option is unchecked, the driver will start saving the images automatically without asking the user, using the default settings. Download: 'Compress Still Images' - If this option is checked, the driver will save the still images in compressed JPEG format, taking up less space. If this option is not checked, the driver will save the still images in PICT format, with no compression. Download: 'File name' - this lets you specify the default file name for each image. You can type any text and also any of the following fields:
